P.L. Smith was born in northern California and raised on his parents farm in the deserts of Nevada. Never satisfied with the seclusion of farm life he struck out and traveled in his early twenties to explore the world. From China to Chile he gained experiences and memories that will stick with him for a lifetime. As happens to most vagabonds, eventually he met someone, put his passport away, and settled down. Before long kids came along and he embarked on his most challenging and epic adventure yet- becoming a stay at home dad. Ironically he returned to farming. Him and his family bought a small farm in northern California where theres lot of room to play and plenty of juicy peaches to eat.
P.L. Smith wrote his first novel- Wayward Prey- amidst a break in his travels. It was an accident really that he stumbled upon fiction writing. During a particularly tough time he began journaling to alleviate the stress of the circumstances. Out of no where the story of a young boy running for his life began pouring out of him. After a month of writing the rough draft was complete. Followed by months of editing and a successful kickstarter campaign the book was finally published. Soon he had a sequel mapped out and an entirely new fantasy series whose first book The Firejack War was the next to be published. Shortly afterwards life got in the way as it tends to do and adult-like responsibilities took priority. Writing is like going to the gym if you’re not disciplined its easy to fall off the wagon and the longer you go the harder it is to climb back on. Nearly a decade passed before he managed to complete another manuscript but thanks to an event called NaNoWriMo he felt inspired to test the waters again and jumped in with both feet.
His newest book- The Dead Author Book Club is scheduled to be released mid 2023 as well as a short memoir of poetry and tales of his life as a stay at home dad. If you’re interested in his writings he would love for you to tag along!
